Osmora Scientific Glossary

Amino-acid sequence

The linear order of amino acid residues in a peptide or protein, read from the N-terminus (free amino group) to the C-terminus (free carboxyl group).

In plain language

The exact order of the building blocks in the chain — the thing that makes one peptide different from another.

Why it matters in research

Sequence defines a peptide's identity; two chains of the same length but different order are different molecules.

Where you'll encounter it

COAs, sequence listings, and identity discussions.
