A covalent amide bond joining the carbonyl carbon of one amino acid to the nitrogen atom of another, formed by a condensation reaction with loss of a water molecule. Also called a eupeptide bond.
In plain language
The specific chemical link that connects one amino acid to the next in a chain.
Why it matters in research
It is the defining structural feature of a peptide; its planar, rigid geometry constrains how chains fold.
