Osmora Scientific Glossary

Mass spectrometry

An analytical technique that ionizes chemical species and separates the resulting ions by their mass-to-charge ratio, enabling determination of molecular mass and supporting identification.

In plain language

A method that weighs molecules very precisely, used to confirm a peptide is the intended one.

Why it matters in research

It provides the identity evidence on a COA — a different measurement from the purity figure produced by HPLC.

Where you'll encounter it

COA identity sections and combined LC-MS results.
