Osmora Scientific Glossary

In vitro

Describing experiments performed outside a whole living organism — for example in cells, tissues, or purified biochemical systems. Latin for "in glass."

In plain language

Research done in a controlled lab setting outside a living body, such as in cells or test-tube systems.

Why it matters in research

In vitro results describe what happens in a simplified system and do not, on their own, establish what happens in a whole organism or in humans.

Where you'll encounter it

Descriptions of laboratory studies and evidence discussions.
